@jagannathanneurosurgery: A lot of patients think surgery is just the time spent in the operating room. But in neurosurgery, the real work starts much earlier. Before a patient ever gets to the OR, there is imaging to review, symptoms to understand, risks to weigh, treatment options to discuss, and a decision to make about whether surgery is actually the right next step. And after surgery, the responsibility continues — recovery, follow-up, symptom monitoring, and making sure the patient is healing safely. That is why spine and brain care should never feel rushed. If you are dealing with back pain, neck pain, nerve pain, weakness, numbness, or symptoms that are affecting your daily life, it may be time to get a proper evaluation. Dr Nandi :
This is exactly why burnout is so high in surgical specialties. The time-to-value ratio is completely distorted.

Can you explain on this? Do you own your own practice? I’m a bit confused how the kickback on something like this is only $150

Same in my specialty. People have no idea what goes into a ‘simple case.’

90 days global non paid. Staff have to be paid 90 days. If more than a procedure need to be done, guess what? 50% off.

People won’t believe u. Everybody thinks that I get paid 5k for every surgery. However, as a podiatrist, the vast majority of my surgeries including trqnsmetatarsal amputation pay me less than $500. Not to mention the 90 day global period after surgery where we have to see the pt for free.

He’s smart in medicine. Doesn’t mean it correlates to other parts of life.

Physicians and surgeons seem to complain the loudest about the upside down distortion of compensation for professional services. All professional services and most labor is affected. This is a stark example of end stage capitalism. Cab drivers in Chicago in the 1980s would make $75 for a run to the airport. Today they make $21. Neither gas nor rent had become cheaper during this period. I practice law and sometimes feel like I was working for $15/hr. It's 2026 and with the growth of private equity and a national debt of $39 trillion you should re-adjust your expectations and entitlement to fit the times.
