@historylovers_001: January 2012: Pastor Tunde Bakare, Convener of the Save Nigeria Group (SNG), joins thousands of Nigerians in nationwide protests against the removal of fuel subsidy by the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan. The protests, popularly remembered as the “Occupy Nigeria” movement, brought together labour unions, civil society groups, students, professionals, musicians, and religious leaders in one of the largest public demonstrations in Nigeria’s democratic history. Triggered by the sudden increase in petrol prices from ₦65 to over ₦140 per litre, the protests effectively shut down major cities including Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Ibadan, and Port Harcourt. For over a week, protesters occupied streets and public squares, arguing that ordinary Nigerians should not bear the burden of government inefficiency, corruption, and mismanagement in the oil sector. The demonstrations eventually compelled the government to partially reverse the policy, reducing the pump price to ₦97 per litre. Our History must be told ..
