it's easy to do in theory, the issue is doing it for 12 straight hours in a casino while coordinating with a group and maybe getting drunk too

ex casino employee here, most people are caught because they think to long about their cards. our boss usually says if they take longer than five seconds they are counting cards. any amount of suspicion is taken care of, the tie goes to the dealer in every case. if you can do it within three seconds it’s worth a shot but any amount of thought creates suspicion

What you are describing is a very basic level of card counting. If you're really good at it, you'll be able to know the exact composition of the remaining decks

You count every card played, adding or subtracting 1 depending on the rank of the card, 2-6 you add 1, 7-9 you don’t add or subtract anything, 10 and above you subtract 1, if your total count is positive there’s a higher chance the next card will be a higher number, if it’s negative theres a higher chance of the next card being a lower number

One time I was teaching someone how to play black jack and thought I was giving them tips and they were like… that’s card counting. I like like oh I thought that was just strategy??

I didn’t know that keeping track of the cards was what was considered counting cards so when I would play games, I would pay really good attention and one time I told somebody the card that was in their hand was obvious because of how many cards have been discarded and he was like keeping track like that is cheating and that is when I learned that I was cheating at every card game I had ever played
