Operation Mincemeat is one show I had to watch twice to appreciate but not for reasons that you might think. The first time I saw it was with the original cast back in the Summer of 2025 and several factors determined my focus or lack thereof that evening: it was a packed house, I was seated in the back mezzanine, oh that's right, I was a bit tipsy which made it difficult understanding their British accents and such. Falling asleep didn't help and by the time curtain call came, crowd was on their feet and I chalked it up to British humor and me not being compatible. A year later as friends hounded me to watch it again and I kept on reading about this cult following that it had been building .. I gave it another shot. My bad, my friggin bad!...and here is a proper buildup... Operation Mincemeat is a wildly acclaimed Tony & Olivier Award-winning musical of a five person ensemble that brilliantly portrays over 100 roles, retelling the true WWII spy story of how British intelligence used a dead body to trick Hitler. This show is bonkahs! Pee in your pants funny! Dance in your seat fiyah! And surprisingly moving. It blends rapid fire raps, slapstick farce, and heartfelt ballads. It's fantastical..hockadoo! Truly hocka-friggin-doo! Huge shout out to this ridiculously talented talented cast: Brandon Contreras as Charles & others, Jessi Kirtley as Jean & others, Gerianne Pérez as Ewen & others, Jeff Kready as Hester & others,and Amanda Jill Robinson as Johnny & others...brava! Add one more to the list of your Broadway musts.. This one knocked me flat on my knockahs, cold-cocked me, jaw-dropped me, out of left field cray cray bonkahs…not just the POP POP visuals, but the elements behind it. "Das Übermensch" opens up Act Two with a heil like no other! It takes the mocking of Nazism to a whole new level by taking an infectious Pop tune a la Max Martin and incorporating a K-Pop/boy-band style dance number and portraying Hitler’s followers as self-obsessed pop stars who believe their tyranny will grant ultimate freedom and their supposed invincibility with lyrics like " And did we mention that this R---- will last a thousand years?” This is such a smart smart number and is a worthy successor to one of my favorites: The Producers’ “Springtime for Hitler,” which also used exaggerated goose-stepping choreography and bedazzled Nazi officer garb to make a hateful regime look utterly ridiculous. "Das Übermensch" translates from German to "The Superman". This musical does a great job reversing the coin on this definition by mocking the Nazi party who used it as a concept that they were the superior beings destined to rule the world (we now have that in the US..they call themselves MAGAts).
