@drjasonpediatrics: A fever in a baby under 3 months is not a wait-til-morning situation. The threshold is 100.4°F (38°C) rectal — and at this age, fever can be the only warning sign of a serious infection (in the blood, urine, or the fluid around the brain). This is the one I never want a parent to second-guess. Save it. Send it to someone with a newborn. #newborn #infant #fever #firsttimeparents #pediatrician. Shoutout to @Beachgem10 who I’m sure has seen newborns with fever in the ER!
Is under the armpit accurate as well ? Also should I be checking baby temp regularly?

Dr. Jason Levine, DO FAAP :
To be precise: AAP defines fever as 100.4°F / 38°C rectal. The formal guideline covers 8–60 days in three age bands; 0–7 days is handled even more cautiously. Rectal temp is the standard at this age. If you’re taking one: insert no more than ½ inch, and never force against resistance. When in doubt, call your pediatrician — that’s what we’re here for.

Should we be checking nightly? Are there any other warning signs?
