@harrisonandduchenne: The world would be better if more people knew about Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Not because families want pity. But because awareness creates understanding. Understanding creates inclusion. And inclusion changes lives. If more people knew about Duchenne, maybe fewer children would feel invisible in public spaces. Harrison has experinced that and its been so disappointing. Maybe accessibility would not feel like an afterthought. Maybe parents wouldn’t have to constantly explain, advocate, educate, and fight to have their child’s needs recognised. If more people understood Duchenne, they would see that these kids are not defined by what their bodies can’t do. They would see resilience, humour, intelligence, determination, and so much heart. Maybe people would stop staring at wheelchairs and start seeing the person sitting in them. Maybe schools, workplaces, sporting clubs, playgrounds, and communities would think more carefully about who gets left out and why. And maybe families living with Duchenne would feel less alone carrying something so heavy. Awareness is not just about knowing the name of a disease.
