Like my dad says, we're always hurt by nothing but our own expectations so expect nothing of others but everything of yourself.
Sounds like a lonely road though

While expecting nothing protects us from disappointment, it also takes us away from "true intimacy". If we don't hold the people close to us to a higher standard than strangers, how do we differentiate them from others? How do they stay special to us? Not setting expectations doesn't solve the problem but it just makes everyone in our lives to "just another person"

Umm It's not their fault? that they didn't live up to your expectations
Maybe we should stop blaming others for being imperfect and for our own idealism in viewing them!

I used to think this way but then i realized it was MY fault creating so many standards and expectations, a person has the RIGHT to be disappointing because that’s a part of everyone’s character and personality. It’s egoistical to be mad when someone doesn’t fit in our self-made concept of perfection 🙏🏻

it hurts me knowing i set a standard for who they are, because in the first place, they expected me to be someone who i am not. Now the roles are reversed

Hhhhh i understand u But even if I were doing the same thing, I would examine it psychologically and logically. Besides, that annoyance only lasts a few seconds and then goes away. I know it’s not logical, although it’s understandable.
What it seems to me is that you need to understand that no matter how much people change for the worse, it’s not your concern if they haven’t harmed you. That’s their freedom. No one is obligated to live according to your expectations.
And honestly, why should it matter to you? In the eyes of some people, you also may not meet their standards, yet that doesn’t reduce your value. It may simply mean that their standards are different from yours, just as your standards are different from theirs. And that doesn’t mean your standards are absolutely right.
So I sincerely wish you healing.

Putting people on a pedestal is wrong, believing what people tell you however is not ur fault.

The thing is you dont even know when you've put someone on that "pedestal" or when you started "expecting" them to be a certain way. You just find yourself going "oh" when they finally show you who they really are. It just happens, especially when you start to care about that someone.

actually it's not fair to believe the image you built on someone based on lack of information because recognising someone's qualities doesn't make them necessarily follow the script you made for them in your mind
