@aurorasadventurez: “I cringe every time I see dog owners do this.” “After a walk or intense exercise, a lot of dogs head straight for the water/food bowl and start gulping. While most dogs will be fine, for large, deep-chested breeds it’s one of several things owners should be aware of when it comes to bloat risk. That’s why I always slow Aurora down and let her cool off first.” Most owners have never heard this before. Let’s talk about it. Did you know?
My dogs have those bowls because they have a habit of eating too fast and then throwing up after. These bowls slows them down enough they no longer have that problem.

If you have a pet, it shouldn’t have to work for its food

Slow feeders are AMAZING. I have two border collies and slow feeders help because they throw up if they eat too fast, plus they are high energy, they love the mental exercise. It’s a fun game to them

I use this simply bc my girl eats so fast she makes herself throw up. These slow her down some.

twisted stomach is the number 1 killer in big barrel dogs. especially when eating or drinking. that's how we lost our big boy spread the food out put a tennis ball in the food anything to get them to slow down when eating.

I do know, I have a Doberman and bloat is my biggest fear. No activity 30 mins before food and an hour after food. Water is allowed when we return from a walk or outdoor activity. I watch and time so he gets enough to replenish but not filling up his tummy. He is not a fast eater, he takes his time, rare I know.

I guess in the wild, wolves patiently wait 30 mins before eating the prey they just chased for 15 miles.

Some dry dog foods can increase the risk of bloat. It absorbs moisture and expands. NEVER exercise a dog right before eating dry kibble and at least an hour after.
