I think tg has a very big post-romantic disillusionment side. Specially abt the traditional romantic elements like the tragic hero, but in a very modern sense idk like kind of warning the viewer abt how disconnected these idealistic stories are from reality and how it actually turns out – I think this is a super important message rn cuz gen z adopts tons of elements from romantism: let it be turning ur life into some kind of art with the creation of all these ahesthethics; or thinking of suffering as meaning and "character-building"; you could even point the lack of deep connection between young ppl leading to fantasizing abt it through media and overall idealizing love. I remember my literature teacher talk abt how romantic protagonist where non chalant and acted super corny, and ppl started mimicking it irl during the 19th century. This is something we see today, there was a whole trend abt being non chalant and being indiferent. Overall I think TG was a bit ahead of its time cuz this is a somewhat recent problem yet the manga, made in 2011, by pointing out to the trouble past literary movements left us with, ended up warning of us what could expect us in the future

Ty for covering this topic/ themes from the manga. I feel like a lot of people skirt past it when reviewing the series or talking about it. Ultimately demoting the reveal of their relationship as more of a shock “twist”.
