I don't fully agree with this interpretation. To me, the song is more about projection than unrequited love. The lyric "I've held your projections when you've felt so insecure" is a big clue. It sounds like the person wasn't really in love with who the narrator truly is, but with an image or idea they created in their mind. Lines like "You studied my crown and borrowed my body" and "I can see right through you" also suggest idealization and projection, not just heartbreak. The song doesn't feel like "I loved someone who couldn't love me back." It feels more like "You fell in love with the version of me that you imagined, not the real me." That's why I think the main theme is projection and putting someone on a pedestal, rather than simply loving someone who wasn't ready for a relationship.
