Problem is health insurance. Insurance is tied to employment. I’ve been in places where I did have enough of a nest egg to survive a few months without a job. But the health insurance. I couldn’t go without health insurance.

He's literally right tho if you can't find a job, then get a minimum wage job until you can find a higher-paying one

Seasonal work is the best if you don't have a "career". The downside is you're looking for work every 6 months or so but it's easier to get seasonal work than a local fast food job in your town. I've learned how to budget for when i don't have a job and yes it is hard, but the freedom and adventures are worth it!!!

perspective became more clear when they mentioned minimum wage jobs.
before that I was wondering how op intended to pay their rent while "broke" but clearly they are speaking to the middle class not those of us who are regularly pay rent a few days late depending on when payday falls.

As someone who works in unemployment people do just quit without finding jobs first and they usually panic about getting unemployment. Most people don’t qualify for unemployment if you quit.

I’d agree if it was stupid easy to get a job. Part time places won’t even hire you now if you’re over qualified

This post is at war with itself. It literally starts “it’s ok to quit your job and be broke” turns into “more people need to just be ok with minimum wage work”

I quit my job without having another ONE TIME when I was 18. I’m now 36. It still gets brought up by ppl around me as some kind of reason I might be a loose cannon and quit another job like that 🙄 I never have

OP is 99% wrong, but there's a kernel of truth there. I watched my mom work three jobs because my dad wouldn't take a job that was "beneath him" and stayed unemployed for two years.

As someone who spent 6 months looking for a job, only to get laid off after 3 days!! Do not quit your job!!! If you hate your job make time to look for something else but don’t risk unemployment in this economy.

people always say this fast food job nonsense. If you're already a professional in another field with a work history for say, a corporate job, they are not going to hire you because they assume you will jump ship immediately when you find something else and that you will ask for a higher wage upfront.

If you have savings it's fine but if you're living check to check, it isn't reasonable. It's much easier to get a job when you have a job. Hiring managers don't like gaps.
