My mom had all of her assets in a LLC. Properties, investments, everything. She put me as the sole owner of the LLC. I had no idea she did this until she died. So technically I owned everything and didn’t have to deal with the courts. She had a file with all of her bank accounts, PIN numbers, logins so I was able to take everything out without hassle. And of course I was the beneficiary for her life insurance policies. She also prepaid for her funeral and planned it. It was so eye opening how well she prepared everything and I was so grateful.

Sorry for your loss. A WILL doesn't prevent probate. Having a TRUST does! My family has property and accounts in a trust with TOD=Transfer on Death.

This is so helpful. Also saying “I’d like to leave my assets to my kids” can also be problematic. I know people who’s dad had other kids and came out of no where to take assets. Might want to name them directly.

Also parents.. stop hiding documents. Put all of your important documents in one place, neatly, so they are easy for your children to sort through during an emergency. We ain’t got time to grieve and fumble through 1000 pieces of stained papers & old sticky notes ❤️rest in peace to your mother 🙏🏽

I work in finance and I stress this to anyone and everyone that will listen. Please have beneficiaries, joint account holders, a POA, Will and Trust, if possible. It seems like a lot but it makes like easier.

My mom signed everything to her kids each. Property, other assets. The only thing she didn’t do is assign jewelry. She put her life savings in my account, so I’m the one to hand out those funds to my siblings. She has no plans to die soon, but she did this to avoid probate.
