@nikki.neisler: I dove deep into the science to figure out why my eyes were hurting at night. Here’s what’s actually causing it… 🏠 MODERN LIVING You’re staring at one focal point for 10 hours under artificial light. Your eyes evolved to scan horizons and refocus across distance in full spectrum sunlight. The modern workday is the most unnatural thing your eyes have ever done. 🔵 BLUE LIGHT FROM SCREENS Unlike sunlight, which is full-spectrum with red and infrared that heal your eyes, LEDs are a sharp blue spike with none of that balance. That blue light penetrates deep and creates oxidative stress. Eyes strain trying to filter what they were never built to take in for 10 hours straight. It also dysregulates your circadian rhythm, so at 9pm your body still reads midday sun. That blocks your melatonin, wrecks your sleep, fries your nervous system, and leaves you wired but tired. ⚡ SCREEN FLICKER When your eyes hurt, you turn down your computer brightness. But it actually makes it worse. Your mac flickers on and off 14,880 times per second to fake dimness (it’s called PWM). Your pupils dilate and undilate with every pulse. That can cause massive eye strain and headache. 📌 FIX YOUR EYE STRAIN EASILY 👇 ☀️ EYE BREAKS Indoor light is 100x dimmer than outdoor light. Follow the 20-20-20 rule (every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds) and step outside in real sunlight every couple of hours. 🕶️ BLUE LIGHT BLOCKERS Blue light blocking glasses protect your eyes from screens and artificial light. 💻 SUNDOWN ON YOUR MAC I’ve been loving the trysundown blue light blocker app for my laptop. It turns my screen a deep red that looks like firelight, and cancels the FLICKER that’s been causing eye strain. My eyes IMMEDIATELY feel soothed. And within a few days I was getting 58% more melatonin, falling asleep 7 minutes faster, and waking up with way sharper focus. 🌅 Comment “SUNDOWN” and I’ll DM you the 🔗 so you can grab it before your next late night 🌞 #biohacking #circadianrhythm #circadianbiology #sleepscience #bluelightblocking
