2 years contract renewal. Your company puts the contract in front of you, you see the familiar salary and job title, and you sign. Hold on habibi! A contract renewal is an opportunity to review your terms, especially if you have been with the company for a while. Most companies always make verbal promises when you join. "After 2 years, we shall increase the salary" Before putting pen to paper, check these things. 1. Your salary Is there an increment? Has your basic salary changed? Don't only look at the total package. Check the basic salary and allowances separately. Did they promise to increase the salary and did they honor that promise? Don't take verbal promises. Let them put it in the contract. 2. Your job title & duties Sometimes you initially join under a different title and they promise to update during renewal. Are you still doing the same job? If your responsibilities have increased significantly, make sure the new role and title are properly reflected. 3. Annual leave & working hours. Review your leave entitlements and working hours again. Don't assume everything is the same as before or they have made the update which they promised. Check your leave entitlement and any conditions attached to taking your annual leave. Also check your air ticket, accommodation or housing allowance, transport, commissions, bonuses and any other benefits you currently receive. 4. Probation Don't assume that every renewal means starting from scratch. Check whether the new contract contains any probation clause and whether it is legally applicable to your situation. As per the law, you cannot serve probation 2 times for the same under the same working relationship. 5. End of service benefits. Understand how your benefits are calculated and whether any changes in your salary structure could affect your future entitlements. Sometimes, your basic salary can be reduced but housing and transportation allowance increased. Same salary but a different breakdown which will affect your end of service. 6. Old and new contract Don't compare your new contract only with your old contract. Compare it with the current reality of your job. Maybe you joined as a junior employee but now handle much more responsibility. Maybe your workload has doubled. Maybe you work different hours now. Maybe your salary has remained unchanged for years. A renewal is also a chance to negotiate. You don't have to wait until you resign before asking for better terms. 7. Do not sign anything without reading. There might be a non compete clause hidden in your contract. There might be some outrageous terms included without notifying you. If something is unclear, ask your HR to explain before you sign. Don't sign and ask questions later. Good luck #uae #work #Menbiblecareers #job #opportunity
