@tiffanyofgod: Humor. This post is meant to educate people about the HEIMLICH MANEUVER, and the importance of it. The Heimlich maneuver (also called abdominal thrusts) is a first-aid technique used when someone is choking and unable to breathe, speak, or cough effectively. For Adults and Children Over 1 Year 1. Stand behind the person. 2. Wrap your arms around their waist. 3. Make a fist with one hand. 4. Place the thumb side of your fist just above the navel (belly button) and below the breastbone. 5. Grasp your fist with your other hand. 6. Give quick, inward-and-upward thrusts into the abdomen. 7. Continue until the object is expelled or the person becomes unresponsive. For Infants Under 1 Year Do not perform abdominal thrusts. Instead: 1. Hold the infant face-down along your forearm with the head lower than the chest. 2. Give 5 firm back blows between the shoulder blades. 3. Turn the infant face-up and give 5 chest thrusts using two fingers on the breastbone. 4. Alternate 5 back blows and 5 chest thrusts until the airway is cleared or help arrives.
