I think a lot of people are misunderstanding Ronaldo’s point. He wasn’t saying the World Cup is irrelevant because it’s only 6–7 games. He was responding to the idea that he needs to win one tournament to be considered the greatest. His point was essentially: “Do I need to be judged as the best player ever based on one competition that lasts 6–7 games?” In other words, he was questioning whether a player’s entire career should be defined by the outcome of a single tournament. That’s different from saying the World Cup doesn’t matter. He was arguing that using one short competition as the deciding factor to remove him from the GOAT debate ignores everything else he has accomplished over a career spanning more than two decades. Whether you agree with him or not, the context matters. The quote was about judging a player’s legacy based on one tournament, not about dismissing the importance of the World Cup itself.
