One of the absolute qworst things you can do with one of those is just let the hose free spool back uncontrolled and then slam to a stop. It's got a coil spring attached to plastic gears and a rubber belt drive operating the plastic guide. As it slams to a stop you will break chunks off of thise gears. You should always walk it back under control as it spools. You will greatly extend it's service life and there isn't one user serviceable part in it so fixing it after you break it isn't an option.
