@dericjyyee: A degree in Malaysia is quietly becoming one of the worst money decisions a young person can make. And the data is scarier than people think. Over 65% of fresh grads start under RM3,000/month even with Master's degrees. The World Bank found that nearly 9 out of 10 fresh grads are now stuck in low or semi-skilled jobs. Everyone blames "too many graduates," but the real issue is a massive skill mismatch. Universities aren't teaching what companies actually want to pay for, and they aren't helping you build the real-world connections that get you hired. Before you spend 4 years and RM50k+, ask yourself: Can I actually build something a company will pay for? The certificate won't save you. The skill will. 🎓 👇 Did your degree actually prepare you for your job? Let me know in the comments. #TechTok #MalaysiaEducation #CareerAdvice #FreshGrads #Connections #FutureOfWork #TikTokMalaysia
The problem I think is that the degree courses are not teaching students to be proactive and independent but rather regurgitating information, which is why employers don’t want them.

The government needs to update the course subjects. Its outdated. Start offering more demanding courses. Students also play a crucial part, needs to research first before going to university

this is so sad,the way our country is able to expand certain courses especially in the pure sciences field but chose not to. The fact is our country can open more job opportunities and ignites passion in the younger generations yet no effort has been done. There’s so many fresh and talented individuals in malaysia in a lot of aspects (psychology, art, astronomy) yet it’s all wasted potential

My last basic salary was 7K (30 years old), I got the job with working experience, and SPM. Started to earn 3.5K at 26 years old and increasing drastically for my skills, before that always struggled with minimum wages. Learning the demand in what you do and communication skills are very important. It is important to go out of your comfort zone, find a better opportunity, and change is good.

if you solely rely on a degree to land you a good paying job is a terrible idea. Bunch of certifications and skill courses available out there. Just a matter of effort I guess. 😅
