If we’re being honest, Kojima would not be a good film director. His movies would be bloated with exposition and terrible dialogue.

his writing isn't good in fact it's terrible plenty of times, his gameplay is different but not particularly the best at anything many times it's also very badly done, his lore is particularly good also visually he is very unique, that's it no he isn't one of the best

I feel like Kojima's work always hits the best in retrospect. At the time of launch a lot of the ideas and story beats just don't feel that impactful, but the longer that you think about them the more meaningful they become.

Any discussion that involves Kojima and claims the lazy “he’s a director who makes games” ignores just how video game-y his games are. He exists and playsaround with this specific medium. At the same time — the “movie-ass game” genre wouldn’t exist without MGS nudging it along. It’s impossible to overstate his impact on the medium.

He’s the kind of game director where you can’t go by others’ opinions - you HAVE to play his games. Each one can be an amazing vision of the present/future, or a somewhat-mid game, but you can’t really rely on someone else to judge it for you

agreed, but for me, he has great symbolism. His response to the isolation crisis we have in the world and the lack of human connection was Death Stranding. A little on the nose sometimes with the message, but DS makes you feel like youre doing a good thing in the game: youre building connections and making broken people feel human again. not many game designers can make something like DS

I appreciate Kojima, I truly dig ALL of his games. Thats is to also say... he annoys me so much dude. I LOVE HIS GAMES, but the first chapter of his book opened with "Meme's are what connects us" and I closed the book.

what i find odd about Kojima is that he's clearly passionate about the story and cutscene aspect of video games but writing is arguably his weakness. he's an amazing game designer though

And his games, while cinematic, aren't playable Movies, the story being told is still that of a video game, using the medium itself and its mechanics as plot devices.

I’m so sad life got in the way while I was playing through DS2; I tried to go back but I just don’t remember how tf to play or what was going on but I’m also far enough that starting over feels like too big of an ask with how little time I have. Kojima gave us MSG2 tho and at the time he did it, he’s brilliant and I’ll support him always- I’d love to see but also hate it if he pivoted to just movies because he’s one of the few that actually utilize the unique interactions and ways to use the media of games.

Kojima is an extreme cinefile and that influences his design decisions. He talked about all the things that I formed characters and moments in the Playstation (one) Metal Gear Solid.
