Because it was a system created under the expectation that one income was enough to take care of the average family’s needs so one parent was always home, while also allowing children, aka unpaid laborers, to be home in time to work the farms. And even tho neither are true or required (respectively), no one cares enough about how hard that is so no one does anything about it .. like raise the minimum wage. Or adjusting work schedules. Or school schedules. Etc etc etc.

This is why we are homeschooling. 3-4 hours a day with school/school work, and then get the rest to yourselves. Kids don’t need 8+hours in school. It takes way less than that to learn things. even if it’s one lesson a day.

I was absolutely blessed with a next door neighbor that was retired and never could have any kids of her own and she loved mine and would get them after school. The started calling her Grammy Kim after a while. I would have never made it without her.❤️❤️
