A black hole is a region of spacetime with such intense gravity that nothing, not even light, can escape. Black holes typically form after the death of very massive stars: when a star runs out of fuel, its core collapses under its own gravity and can form a black hole. The boundary around it is called the event horizon — if an object crosses this boundary, it can no longer return. According to modern physics, at the center of a black hole is a singularity — a region of extremely high density where the known laws of physics break down. Black holes themselves cannot be seen because they emit no light, but scientists detect them by their effects on surrounding objects, such as the motion of stars and the glow of hot gas falling in. There are stellar-mass black holes and supermassive black holes, which are found at the centers of many galaxies, including the Milky Way. Black holes also warp space and time around them: for an outside observer, time appears to flow more slowly near them. In 2019, scientists from the Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration captured the first image of a black hole's shadow, marking one of the most important achievements in modern astronomy. Despite decades of research, black holes remain among the most mysterious objects in the Universe, helping scientists better understand the nature of gravity, space, and time. #blackhole #scary #horror #spaceedit
