This is why I will always agree with the creator of heated rivalry show when he said that ilya and Shane are ours because they are fictional of course. But both Shane and Connor aren’t because they are they’re own selves and whether they are straight or queer we already know that they are great Allie’s of the community💕.

i honestly do think we need more gay actors in gay roles, but remaining ambiguous about your sexuality regardless of the role you're in SHOULD be the norm because it means gay people aren't being taken out of the running for any roles either. and i think a queer person is just going to have an easier time kissing someone of the same gender, making them more likely to get the role even if straight people audition. all that being said, i literally cannot believe that either of them are straight because a hetero couple irl couldn't even pull off that kind of passion for a camera. so they're both bi/pan in my mind until proven otherwise. and honestly we should probably assume everyone is capable of finding any gender attractive until specifically told otherwise by that person.

I really hate that people are expected to explain their sexuality openly just because they are in a queer show. Yes it would be great for all the actors to be queer but they don't need to be and they may be queer but not out. Just enjoy the show x

The anime series The Aquatope on White Sand is the definition of queer baiting. It's wild how the series is "they're just friends" from start to finish despite episode after episode of yuri moments and relationship moments.

I think both actors are great stewards of this series. They don’t shy away from physically expressing their friendship love, even when the shipping and rpfing became toxic and invasive. They didn’t perform hypermasculinity and aren’t afraid of their feminine side. The Ilya and Shane are masc4masc, so playing with gender was not a part of that storyline and very much about their own personal style. It’s not queerbaiting to wear blouses etc bc they aren’t mimicking their characters to hype the show or exploit queer fans emotions. Connor and Hudson are having fun and are a joy to watch on the red carpet, in interviews, starring in commercials and for Hudson costarring in a music video. I also think telling the public their sexuality will only open them up to more invasive sleuthing and vitriol. It’s ironic that they are not out with their sexuality given the DL theme of HR, but given how poorly some fans behaved when they had more access, I don’t blame them.

I think there’s a nuanced conversation to have about advocating to see openly queer actors playing queer roles in major projects so that we see more queer actors being rocket launched to fame, but the key word here is openly, no one should have to come out in order to play these roles. Also, it’s pretty important to acknowledge that sometimes, the closet is made of glass. Or perhaps cellophane.
