California school bus driver here, and the private school that I drive for does this. Each student has to tap in before entering school and tap out before leaving school. So just in case of an emergency they know who is still on campus or not.

The clock in. Is actually a good idea for the kids safety. It counts then as in school. Teachers don’t need to do attendance either.
