I realize this is not the the popular take these days, but the graduation is the ceremony. The celebration comes after on everyone’s own personal time. I get that everyone is excited and joyful, but the graduation is a ceremony on a schedule where everyone is supposed to get equal attention for their accomplishment. I don’t know why it’s suddenly a hot take to ask people not to do anything extra besides smile, shake hands, and accept your diploma as you walk.

at my graduation, we were told we could show excitement but it had to be 1) school appropriate 2) not over the top/exaggerated 3) less than 5 seconds or they would withhold our diplomas. we were told around finals, at the grad rehearsal, and when we were lining up right before the graduation

i don’t think they needed to withhold her diploma but i do think she should have anticipated that and understood at least on some level why they did that. it was a BAD decision but i’m glad she did get her diploma in the end because one awful decision doesn’t negate 4 years of high school

my high-school graduation they made it very clear if there was any foolery during rhe ceremony we would not be getting our diploma😂 they actually handed us empty diploma holders and made us pick up the actual diploma a later day
