@middleeasteye: More than 60 people arrested including activists and journalists outside Delaney Hall on Sunday night after Newark authorities imposed a 9pm curfew around the ICE detention facility. Footage shows police on horseback and hundreds of officers in riot gear surrounding demonstrators and members of the press moments after the curfew took effect. "I’m risking my own safety because it is important for the detainees on the inside to actually get justice," activist Kaylee Henry told Middle East Eye before her arrest. According to protesters and legal observers, many of those detained were charged with incitement and resisting arrest before being released the following day. The arrests come as demonstrations enter their second week outside Delaney Hall, where hundreds of detainees have reportedly been participating in a hunger strike to protest alleged medical neglect, coercive practices and their continued detention. As of Tuesday night, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka announced an end to the protest curfew around the facility and is pursuing legal action to shut down the detention centre.
