@reels.classics: 🎶🥹 Michael Giacchino – "Married Life" (from Up, 2009) Seoul Festa Philharmonic Orchestra 🎻 • The man behind this waltz spent years scoring war video games like Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. It was that game music that led producer J.J. Abrams to bring him onto the series Lost, and soon Pixar came calling. With Up, Michael Giacchino became the first composer out of video games to win the Oscar for Best Original Score, and this piece, "Married Life", also earned him a Grammy. Few imagine that Pixar's most tender score came from the same keyboard that once underscored gunfire and explosions. • Listen again and notice something curious: the music almost never sounds fully resolved. It keeps swaying between two very similar chords, one at peace and another that leaves a longing in the air, never quite closing. Giacchino said he was after exactly that, the feeling of moving forward without leaving behind those already gone. It is a subtle effect you feel before you notice it. Once you know it is there, you hear the theme always about to resolve, and never quite getting there. • The musicians here are the Seoul Festa Philharmonic Orchestra, a Korean group that deliberately rejects the solemn mood of the great concert halls. The name comes from "festa", and the idea is to treat film music as a celebration, for people who might never set foot in a traditional concert. You can see it in how the stage is set: a handful of players side by side on pale wood, more a circle of friends than a distant, imposing ensemble. The pianist carries the piece with a restrained, unhurried touch, letting each phrase end before the next begins. In the end, it is proof that music written for a cartoon can fill a concert hall and make everyone in the audience remember someone. • 👉 Follow for the best of classical music daily on your feed. • • • #piano #violin #disney #classicalmusic
