Earlier this year, when Grae was 14 months old, we noticed a small mass on her belly and brought her in to have it checked out. We expected it might be something relatively simple, but the cytology results showed it was a malignant tumour. From there, we met with specialists and put together a treatment plan. Thankfully, an ultrasound showed no evidence of spread, and everything pointed to the tumour being isolated. A few weeks later, Grae underwent surgery to have the tumour removed. The surgery went very well, and her recovery was smoother than we could have hoped for. Other than needing reminders to take it easy, she was the perfect patient. The final pathology results showed that Grae had a Grade 2 tumour. While there is a possibility it could return in the future, the tumour was completely removed with clean margins, which was the outcome we had been hoping for. Grae will be monitored more closely over the next two years, but we are incredibly grateful to the team at Canada West for the care they provided every step of the way.
