@verbessert.cc: MiG-31 Foxhound | Edge of Space. - Mikoyan MiG-31 "Foxhound" The Mikoyan MiG-31, known by its NATO reporting name "Foxhound," is a Soviet-designed long-range supersonic interceptor developed by the Mikoyan design bureau. Introduced in 1981, it was designed to protect the vast airspace of the Soviet Union by intercepting enemy bombers, reconnaissance aircraft, and cruise missiles at long distances. Powered by two Soloviev D-30F6 turbofan engines, the MiG-31 can reach speeds of up to Mach 2.83, making it one of the fastest combat aircraft still in service. The aircraft is operated by a crew of two: a pilot and a weapons systems officer. Its advanced radar system allows it to detect, track, and engage multiple targets simultaneously in all weather conditions, day or night. The MiG-31's exceptional speed, range, and high-altitude performance make it a highly effective interceptor. Modernized variants, such as the MiG-31BM, feature upgraded avionics, radar systems, and weapons, ensuring the aircraft remains a key component of Russia's air defense network. Specifications Role: Long-range interceptor Origin: Soviet Union Crew: 2 First flight: 1975 Entered service: 1981 Maximum speed: Mach 2.83 (approximately 3,000 km/h) Service ceiling: Over 20,000 meters Armament: Long-range air-to-air missiles and a 23 mm cannon The MiG-31 Foxhound is widely regarded as one of the most capable interceptor aircraft ever built, combining extreme speed, long range, and powerful radar systems to defend large areas of airspace against a wide variety of aerial threats. - #mig #fighter #aviation #airforce #russia
