I think he actually enjoys being the villain, he loves the attention. He saw the notoriety Sandoval got and knew it would leave to other opportunities (I.e. Traitors, House of Villains, etc). It’s not about Amanda at all, it’s the West show!

It all lined up. Amanda became the best victim because of the way Kyle was treating her this season. And she was ready to set up Kyle this season and make him the perfect villain and we saw that. And then they broke up so it was perfect timing for him to weasel his 3 year crush on Batula. He also thought the audience would choose Amanda over Ciara and that’s why he thought that he would come out of this unscathed not knowing that people would care more about the betrayal of Amanda to Ciara Amanda moving on from Kyle with him her “knight in shining armour”

The only thing I honestly can think of is that he really thought people would root for him and Amanda because Kyle was such a bad partner, but he couldn’t recognize that the audience would turn on the two of them
