As someone with live event warehouse experience. if you request the audio console but no cables it won’t work. so many times they would only request one thing and they would expect you to know and fill in the blanks to make it work. even if it’s not on the pull sheet they expect it to magically make it on the truck.

I also work in live event A/V and the owner’s claim that that wouldn’t be able to give proper notice for travel is absolute nonsense. These shows are planned MONTHS in advance in 99% of situations. They could absolutely give more notice

I could be completely wrong since Ive never worked in the field, but wouldn’t the fact that the boss consistently doesn’t know if he needs to send the guy till 2 days before the trip probably be the actual cause of the problem?

What’s interesting to me about this particular case (and I only know this because I manage an event venue in Detroit) is that Detroit is a Union Stagehand City. Almost every venue uses stagecrew from the Union, meaning there’s always enough people working shows because they’re working alongside the traveling crew. And if he is in the Union then he has a big grievance to file.

Short notice in this career can be typical if there is a last minute crewing need, but many are booked months in advance. My husband always checks in with me before taking a job whether a week out or months out.

What kind of business is this that they don’t know their schedule well in advance to properly plan and staff? I highly doubt there are many spur of the moment live events that you can only give 2 days notice.

The boss wanted him to quit. realized that he and his wife were close and discussed things. As pointed out it was the first over the top request. Nights weekends he flat out said all trips would be short notice. It wasn't experience it was he had someone who needed a job and the budget needed to be freed up.
