Just for anyone confused. Yes Melanie is Afro-Latina. No that doesn’t mean all Dominicans are black. There are Dominicans with European ancestry. So yes a lot of Dominicans have African ancestry, but 90% of the ones that do also have European ancestry because remember Spain colonized us. And then of course the Taino ancestry for the indigenous people that were there. So what did we learn? Melanie’s Afro-Latina, Dominicans aren’t all black, and the ones that are aren’t JUST black…we’re MIXED. Hence the “I no black I Dominican” we say Dominican because it encompasses everything we are, just like “I’m mixed” encompasses everything they are for any mixed person. Have a great day!🫶🏽
