@ninabakerconsulting: It’s disgusting when people make up false allegations in family court. I’m not talking about minor disagreements or exaggerated complaints. I’m talking about the most serious allegations a person can make against another human being. Allegations that can destroy reputations, careers, relationships, mental health and, most importantly, a parent’s relationship with their children. Time and time again, I’m seeing parents accused of horrific things, only for those allegations to later be found unsupported or not proven. Yet by that point, the damage has already been done. Parents have spent months defending themselves, lost precious time with their children, suffered anxiety, depression and sleepless nights, and in some cases spent thousands of pounds trying to clear their name. What makes it even more frustrating is that there are often very few consequences for making allegations that turn out to be unsupported. Meanwhile, some parents believe these allegations can help them gain advantages during proceedings, including access to legal aid. Family court should always protect children where there are genuine safeguarding concerns. But we also need to have a serious conversation about the devastating impact false allegations can have on innocent parents and families.
