@twoparentsandapod: There's nothing Tate loves more than AGUA and our most recent predicament = how to differentiate between agua you CAN drink and agua you CAN'T 🫠 Accepting any and all advice 🙏 and now, we’re curious - what concept put your toddler’s brain in a pretzel 👇 #twoparentsandapod #toddlerlife #toddlermom #parentingmoments #19monthold
Toddlers often understand categories better than explanations. “Swimming water” and “drinking water” are two different jobs, and that’s usually enough for their age. IMO ;)❤️🥰

My grandson is two and he thinks any kind of water… tub, pool, lake, river is a bath. We had a very hard time talking him into a swim diaper bc he thinks everything is a bath lol

So cute 😊 guess you can’t say yucky or dirty or she won’t want to go in .. simply ‘not drinking water’ 💦

Tell her chlorine and yuck. No matter whether it’s ocean, lake, pool. She will learn quickly (cause she’s smart). Make it silly when you do the yuck. Over exaggeration is the best.

You can explain it to her. Show her where you get drinking water and explain this water we drink, pool water is for swimming. Keep reinforcing kids picks up quicker than you think

Encourage her to use her sense of smell! Smell water at home before drinking it and notice aloud how it has no smell. Then next time she goes to the pool and tries to fill her cup stop her and have her smell the pool water, “uh-oh, this water has a smell. That means it’s not for drinking!” Naturally this can also be applied to lakes and other bodies of water with natural odors.

Explain to her that it’s gonna hurt her stomach because there’s a bunch of chemicals in it and it’s not good for our bodies.

When I ran a pool and taught lessons we (as a staff) called it stinky feet water and we don’t drink or sniff (because water up your nose…) stinky feet water. Our feet don’t go in cups, so we can drink that, but our feet do go in pools so no.

Do not let her drink water in a pool or any other body of water…. I hope that’s not what you’re saying you’re allowing.
