@athensmoviepalace: How digital theaters get the movie file… We were a new theater that was built in 2015 with digital projection and stadium seating. Many theaters had to update their equipment from film projection but we didn’t have any experience with that.
I worked at a theater eith film before converting digital. it really was so much more magical!

You’re talking about HDDs being delivered the day before you needed them and it being stressful. When I worked at a theater in 1999 the movie showed up on reels the day before we needed it…..and it had to be built and screened. One night a movie didn’t show up until 10pm and I had to build it and screen it and couldn’t go home until like 3am.

fuck im old, I was a protectionist in high school and i remember stinging film through the projector. also if the movie was playing in multiple theaters i had to run it throught a series of pullies across the celing to the other projector. but I did get to see almost every movie to make sure the reels were usable

This is sad and depressing. Film projection is nearly a dead art.

The best part of working in the movie theater in the nineties was staying late after all the shows finished to pre watch the reels. The manager used to let us bring our friends to enjoy the show .

Once I peaked into the projection room at the drive in theater - the film was looped AROUND THE ROOM as it was being fed into the projector!

I really wish we'd go back to film, I miss seeing actual film grain when watching a movie.

with all those memory sticks being sent around, do you gotta send them back so they can reuse them or are these also a subject of the memory shortages? 🤔

Looks like the movies are in the ballpark of 1TB in size. I really would have expected them to be much larger than that. Pretty surprising.
