ANY form of domestic abuse is serious. Now, I’m just a podcast host but here’s what I know: There are 4 main categories.  - Physical - Psychological/emotional - Sexual - Financial/economic And there is a high co-occurrence. When I hear indicators that their could be  financial abuse I’m concerned because its rarely isolated. Research within Domestic Violence Studies shows that a large majority of people experiencing financial abuse also report psychological/emotional abuse, and a significant portion report physical or sexual abuse as well. National Network to End Domestic Violence and National Domestic Violence Hotline reports that among those experiencing financial abuse, a majority also experience emotional abuse, and a substantial minority (often 30–60%+) report physical violence Here are a few examples of what financial abuse can look like: - Taking someone’s paycheck and giving them an “allowance” - Refusing to let them access “shared” bank accounts - Hiding financial information (accounts, debts, income) - Requiring permission for every purchase—even small ones - Opening credit cards or loans in your name without consent - Forcing them to quit a job or education program - Refusing to pay for childcare so they can’t work If you’re in the U.S., you can reach the National Domestic Violence Hotline right now: 📞 Call: 1-800-799-7233 (SAFE) 💬 Text: START to 88788 🌐 Chat: available online (24/7) They are free, confidential, and available 24/7, and can help with safety planning, resources, or just someone to talk to. #marriage #money
