Another tip, real sterling silver will not be magnetic. So I keep a little magnet in my purse just to check if I can’t find a 925 stamp. Otherwise it’s probably plated

As someone who has found many sterling silver pieces at the thrift and at goodwill (I once found a west Moreland sterling silver flatware service for 8 with serving pieces for 6.99) I have found that sterling pieces are a little lighter. Silver plate has more weight to it. I do have a sterling silver bowl that I inherited that is super heavy, but it’s the exception in my collection.
