Oh you precious woman! I promise you plucked this story right out of my own memories! What wonderful days those were. And then one day I was old enough to be one of those women cuttin off corn and I still love it to this very day. Thank you for this!!!

I’m living in Grandaddy’s old house. He’s long passed along with most of the family, now me and my grandson carry on the tradition. If you know, you know… awesome times with awesome memories. I remember my great aunt had a corn shuck doll that her mother had made for her when she was a little girl. Cutting off corn, picking and shelling peas and beans, canning tomatoes and squash, always plenty to do and nobody would complain…that was just life in Wayne county. That was about 65 years ago and hasn’t changed much on this hill. Thanks for the memories!!!

Mama had a special corn cutting dress. Had one for shelling purple hulls too.We cut the ends with a cleaver on a cutting board of hardwood. A truckload at the time. Thank you for reminding me that cutting off corn was indeed a time that I liked the best too. And for reminding me just how blessed my raining was.
