I think Ranked 2.0 completely messed up people’s perception of what their actual skill level is compared to their rank. A lot of players who couldn’t even hit Plat in Ranked 1.0 suddenly made it to Emerald or even Diamond in Ranked 2.0, and now they’re complaining because they’re back in Gold under the new system, when Gold is probably where their skill level actually belongs.
Personally, my peak in Ranked 1.0 was Plat 2 with a 1.2 KD, and even getting to Plat was a struggle back then. In Ranked 2.0, reaching Diamond was difficult at first, but once I got there, I could hit it every season without much effort. Then, just two weeks ago, I hit Champ for the first time with a 1.3 KD.
I don’t even consider myself some amazing player. I’m definitely above average, but there’s no way I’m on the same level as Ranked 1.0 Champions. A Champion should be a semi-pro level player who dedicates a huge amount of time to the game, not someone like me who only plays 2 or 3 matches a day when I even get on.
I think that’s why so many people are upset with this system. They got used to flying through Gold, Plat, and Emerald in Ranked 2.0, so now they feel like they deserve higher ranks. But now that they’re actually being placed where they belong, they think it’s unfair, when in reality it’s the opposite. This new system is way more accurate.
And honestly, if you truly have Champion-level skill, you should have no problem beating players in lower ranks and climbing back up.
