OMG sometimes when I hear live music I just instantly tear up. No reason why but maybe this is a connection!! It just feels so intimate.

So that’s why singing tight harmonies in duet feels so damn good. And then I want to hold the last note out all night! 😂

I’m 40 and 1 year into learning guitar. When I try to play and sing at the same time my brain overheats. And I’m educated, have a good job, have a kid, wrote poetry, etc. My brain is at its max when I try to play and sing.

So, long story...I was a music major. I was lead in most of the ensembles I participated in. 1. I had to drop out because of performance anxiety. I couldn't pass my juries because even though I was extremely talented, the second you isolated me I forgot everything I knew and could not breathe properly. 2. I 100% could not improvise, it's like I was phobic. I couldn't process all the information fast enough to produce sound that made sense. Is THAT what was happening?

I started relearning music theory and reading with guitar 1.5 years ago. Also picked up piano to help as part of learning to read and understand music notation. When it finally clicked and both hands played piano notes independently on a piece of music, I felt a moment of clarity and knew some changed in my music learning journey, and somehow felt amazing 🥰. Not sure if there is a scientific explanation for this.

Oh, THAT’S why I can’t sing in front of people but I can do it by myself in my car—and why I hate the sound of my own voice—AND why I get emotional even with funny songs if the music is structured a certain way

Aphantasia.com just hosted a webinar about musical reasoning without a mind's ear, which is incredibly interesting to me! I don't have a mind's eye, and didn't even consider that some people don't hear music in their mind. The video should be available on their website (free)!

Yay! As someone who’s only ever played the recorder in elementary school, this makes me so happy because I’m in my mid-40s and am about to start piano lessons! 🎹🧠✨

Music is the magic! I sing and play for seniors at assisted living in memory care homes, and it is the most rewarding work that I have ever done.

Yo that makes sense why I don’t like singing in front of people and I’ve actually likened it to being naked in front of people
