My question is: if all these companies are using us as exit liquidity, what am I supposed to do? Sell all my VOO in my retirement accounts or what? I feel reasonably informed and I still kinda don’t know the answer here.

another possible future, tech/computer advances drastically minimize how much energy AI needs to run, and the US ends up wasting billions on data centers that end up abandoned

US is net exporter of oil.

about a year ago, this was one silver lining I had (somewhat joked, somewhat not) about the AI age bringing the urgency of upgrading our power infrastructure. Will it benefit the public? We’ll see. I’m working on a video that’ll dissect the feasibility and mechanics of power companies (via the data center owners) giving rebates to citizens - effectively, paying people for permission to build DCs.

I think that Musk will eventually branch into Energy….mainly solar but probably nuclear. But that takes time, lots of time

Why don’t they become renewable energy companies?

When we think about “energy” for data centers, we usually aren’t thinking about oil. Oil price has an impact on transportation and construction costs, but electricity generally comes from natural gas, solar, wind, and nuclear.

What’s the impact to the market when such a large IPO happens? I fear that this overvalued IPO will damage governance and further erode trust in economic fundamentals. Another crash-correction in the horizon.

Energy and infrastructure! Fervo was biggest clean energy IPO. Lots of momentum here but the risk esp with hormuz is coal is also rising.

One thing to remember is that electricity in the US is primarily natural gas, not oil, and spot prices have been relatively low for the last several months. I think the constrain is the infrastructure required to expand natural gas generation. Regardless, while the USA has been decarbonizing its economy (especially California), China’s trajectory is much faster, despite the later start.

The real energy constraint is with GE Vernova, Hitachi and the other companies that make gas turbines and power transformers. You don’t ramp that up quickly.

Is energy really the constraint or is it the lack of profits? The VC money spigot has to run dry at some point right?
