@zechshustle: The second you finance that zero turn, that trailer, that pressure washer, you’ve already lost. A 60k equipment package at 8% over five years runs you about 20k in interest alone—that’s pure margin gone. Add insurance, maintenance, and repairs on gear that depreciates instantly, and by year two you owe 40k on a 35k asset. You’re underwater before you even scale. But here’s what actually kills people: financing locks you into constant work. You can’t pivot, can’t say no to low-margin jobs, can’t weather a slow month. I’ve watched crews take break-even work just to hit their payments. That’s not a business—that’s employment with extra steps. I started Z’s Exteriors lean. Used equipment, one crew, overhead at $3,000 a month instead of $12,000. That margin let us reinvest, hire better, and actually build. Your competitor’s drowning in debt while you’re running 40% margins—in two years you’ll own more than they ever will. Start with used or rented gear. Build revenue first. Once you’re consistently doing 30k a month, buy one quality asset with cash. The difference between operators who make it and ones who go broke isn’t equipment—it’s discipline. #business #landscaping #entrepreneur

My trucks are financed but equipment has all been cash. I think this is a terrible take. Use the 0% financing options and make money right away. Also come with a warranty vs buying used equipment cash

0% interest. Don’t use your money, use someone else’s money. Finance and build credit

Understand smart debt before you start saying financing is a trap. Yeah no payment is nice but using someone elses money to make you money without blowing all of your money, is leverage. Robert Kiyosaki teaches this best.

0% with 0 down is amazing. 13k mower. No penalty for paying it off too quick, I’ll have it paid off in a year I’m not worried about it.

all my equipment, tools, trucks, and trailers have been cash. boyyyyy it was hard as hell yo do that. only did it because I dont have credit history. finally got a new mower financed this year but its 0% for 48 months. If you can do 0% definitely do that and make money now. I do agree not to have 5-10 things loaned out if you dont have the work to back it up. Took me a whole year of saving and buying as I went but it worked out. This year has been amazing but if I could go back, I wouldve tried to find someone to cosign 10k or something to help me jump off. The work was always there but it took longer and alot harder without the proper equipment.

why not show debt instead of paying 38% tax on profits... make 100k but it cost me 30 to do it .... tax liability is now 70k and I'm not fighting broken equipment making less......

if you need the equipment to do the work and the revenue and cashflow in the business can handle the payment then buy it. we have 270k in equipment debt but do 2mil in gross revenue that equipment let's us do that and will suffice for anything larger now too

I disagree. If you are smart and know how finances work then it’s not “a trap” lol. Just have to know how to price jobs so the equipment is making you money as well as also paying for itself.

Disagree man. Personally I don’t have 60k to go buy a skid. And I spend about 1200 a month on rentals. Just bought one delivered tom 450 a month zero interest for four years. Literally saves me money to finance it
