I'm sad to see that there are still people who STILL put bells on their cats' collars.
And I'm also sad to see that there are people who don't want to admit that this isn't good for their pets.
These are the main points why you should NOT let your cats wear bells.
- Brain Fatigue: While they won't cause deafness, constant 50-60dB chimes right next to their sensitive ears can overstimulate and fatigue their auditory cortex.
- Stress & Anxiety: Cats can't "turn off" the noise. For anxious kitties, this triggers chronic stress, hiding, and frustration.
- Ruined Instincts: Cats are apex predators designed to move silently. A bell completely breaks their natural stealth biology.
- No Outdoor Safety: It alerts predators to your cat’s location, removing their best defense (stealth).
I know what I'm talking about; the best experts and veterinarians I've spoken to agree on this. If you'd INFORMED yourself, maybe you'd know it too.
If you truly love your pets, you won't keep making them wear them; it takes sensitivity and awareness.
