Why is it so exhausting to argue with somebody who is wrong? Why is it we can lay out all of our evidence, cite all of our sources, and construct a logical argument, when the other person can just say, nope, I just don't buy it. It's all to do with Brandolini's law. In 2013, Brandolini coined what he called the "BS asymmetry principle." And it goes like this: The amount of energy needed to refute nonsense is an order of magnitude greater than the energy needed to produce it. Imagine a man called Steve. Steve claims that the Great Wall of China is the only manmade structure you can see from space, and Claire wants to refute him. She says that astronauts have been to space, and they cannot see the Great Wall of China. She says that a wall that is only six metres wide cannot possibly be seen from orbit. But by the time Claire is finished, Steve has moved on to something else. Brandolini's law is why conspiracy theories, political propaganda, and misinformation spread so quickly. Because a lie can travel around the world before the truth gets its boots on. A lie needs only a single line. But the correction requires a paragraph, a source, a caveat, and a level of nuance that most people don't have the patience for. Brandolini's law does not say we should stop having these arguments, but rather that if we are exhausted by them, that's not a sign that we are failing. It's just a sign that the game was rigged from the start.
Result: All of them tasted great. Longer boiling only made them smaller.#Jellyfish #Seafood #FoodExperiment #Cooking #Foodie
