I feel like the distraction of the barista and then not coming in for several days shows guilt. I think he worked his story so that he could continue coming in because it’s obv his favorite coffee shop and wants to keep coming in.

It's possible that he was just clueless. Not everyone inspects the bills like I do. Many aren't used to cash. I used to be a cashier decades ago and accidentally accepted a fake bill, that's why I always double check now

I mean I can believe it. Mostly bc those bills have been circulating for at least a few years now. Its not a new scam and its easy enough to miss that it could theoretically pass from a client to management to employee, especially if it was a same day job-payment and they're not using like bigger cash machines that might catch it. But also...times are tough and I wouldn't put it past someone who was maybe just trying to creatively stretch to payday. I'd still be implementing new policies around large bills tho 🤷♀️

It makes sense to me because if he gets paid in cash it would be normal for him to carry such a large bill to pay at a coffee shop since that's what he probably gets paid on, and if he's carrying several of them if easy to not check one.
