@threadofeverything: Most communion takes two minutes. This is going to take longer because what we are about to do is not two minutes worth. Grab a piece of bread (any bread). A small cup of wine, grape juice, or water. Sit somewhere quiet. We are going to walk together through what this meal actually is, where it came from, and what is happening when you hold the elements in your hand. The bread Jesus took had been God's presence-bread in the Tabernacle for over a thousand years. The cup Jesus lifted was the Cup of Salvation Israel had been singing about for centuries. The blood of His covenant, Zechariah 9:11 says, is the blood that frees prisoners from the pit. This is not symbolic remembering. The Greek word Jesus used is *anamnesis*, which means re-presentation. The past event becoming present again. The cross at your table.
