@jbaymedia: I thought it was super strange when I saw a lower price for a WestJet flight but then when I went to change my existing flight to the new one, the price was not the same at the confirmation page. I was super confused because when I went to book as a new flight instead of changing my existing one, the price was significantly lower. Here’s what happened. Follow to join the trip to Spain in July. ##travel##airline##airport##gasprices##airlines
Yeah - they call it “ dynamic pricing”. It’s a sleazy business.

I did this exact scenario last night for exact same flight to Mexico in December. I just cancelled and rebooked right away and saved $500. A little hint when doing this, if you go into original booking and look at editing the seats you can get a preview of how many seats are already selected/sold so you can see if it might be risky to cancel the flight and not be able to book same flight. Too bad you have to cancel and rebook to get the credit but whatever works!

Were you using the Westjet site or a third party site?

I'm surprised it still wasn't more when using credits.

i’m looking into doing the same thing for the flight that leaves on July 3, did the credit reflect in your account immediately after cancelling your original flight?

FYI, comfort fare on AC is the same class fare as WS econo flex. However it’s not the same, comfort is 100% refundable, you don’t need to take travel credit. You also get a preferred seat, 2 checked bags & no change fees. AC also offers free beer & wine on North American flights. You don’t get any of this with WS.

Air Canada has something similar but it’s 100% refundable up to 24 hours before flight includes two check bags as well. It’s called comfort class. I’ve saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars doing exactly what you’re doing, but I don’t cancel my booking. I rebook when I see it cheaper then I go in and I cancel the original flight. I think we saved over $600 for two of us.

WestJet does this all the time. Since they were purchased by private equity Onex their business practices have been focused on extracting every dollar from customers.

Travel time 🛩️ :
Every one of the airlines and Expedia, Travelocity blah blah all the other names that Expedia owns, do the exact same thing. If you’re looking for a flight or a package and you go back and look a second time the price goes up you go back a third time it’s gone up again. They’re all a bunch of sleazy businesses.

I don’t know why you’re surprised, it’s pretty common knowledge that WestJet is constantly trying to fuck over their customers.

WestJet has become extremely exploitative in the last few years. They are predatory and attempt to make people pay the most possible rather than having a fair profit margin in the flights. this year my family was down in Mexico and their flights home were cancelled because of violence happening in the city. before re-booking my family they hiked the prices of flights from 1,000 CAD to 2,500-3,000, so they are cancelling flight and increasing the prices because of an event that put their customers in danger. profit over people should be their motto.
