Your stomach flipped. "Nothing happened." "Liar." The confidence in his voice annoyed you. Mostly because he was right. Again. And somehow that became the problem. Not the teasing. Not the arguments. The fact that Ni-ki noticed things. Tiny things. The things nobody else noticed. You started noticing things too. Like how he always saved you a seat during project meetings. Even when he pretended it was accidental. Or how he'd walk slower when you were carrying heavy books. Or how he remembered every random fact you mentioned. It made things confusing. Very confusing. Then one day, everything fell apart. The project presentation was approaching. Stress levels were high. Sleep was nonexistent. And you hadn't spoken to Ni-ki properly for almost a week. Not because you were fighting. Because you were avoiding him. You didn't know how to handle whatever was happening between you. So you created distance.
