How to visit Mt Etna, Sicily🌋 Etna is actually pretty easy to visit considering it’s one of the world’s most active volcanoes! ⏰You can’t pre-book this online so get there early to avoid the crowds. We got there for opening at 8.30am and didn’t have to queue at all 🚗Make your way to: Etna Cable Car (on google maps) and park up. You can pay for your parking at any of the souvenirs shops here 🎫From the cable car station you can buy your ticket up the volcano. We opted for the ticket up to 2,900 meters which consists of a cable car, 4x4 jeep bus, and then a short walk. Cost: €78 per adult/ €50 per child (You can also buy a ticket just up to the top of the cable car, but there isn’t much here except the cafe. You won’t get to walk around or have the guide to learn from so I personally wouldn’t recommend this option) 🚠 Take the cable car up, this takes around 10-15 minutes As we were on our way up we saw people walking up the volcano. They were really struggling due to all the recent ash from the eruption a day before. It is possible walk up, but i wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re fit ☕️There’s a cafe at the end of the cable car which actually has really good food including sandwiches, chips, cakes and more. There’s an outdoor terrace to take in the views too. 🚌Next you take a 4x4 jeep bus up. It’s pretty bumpy but also super cool these buses are just traversing up the top of a volcano. This only take about 5-10 minutes 🥾After getting off, everyone on the bus becomes a little tour group and you have a guide who takes you up to 2900m. Make sure to wear sensible shoes, the ash can be tricky to walk on! This part of the day takes around an hour. The guide will explain about past eruptions, the type of volcano and eruptions, and also answer any questions you have. Plus there’s plenty of chance to take pictures! Then they’ll lead you back to the buses to start your journey back down! 💜Overall it is an expensive day but it’s also a bucketlist experience to be so close to the summit of such an active volcano!
