The highest guys is the state police in order to be a state trooper You have to first have been a city cop or a sheriff and then if you're good enough you get promoted to become a state policeman

Depending on what state you are in the county sheriff is the highest ranking officer for their county jurisdiction. Some states are state police and some states they are just highway patrol

Why do people think state police have more authority than the county? Being state doesn't mean that they outrank or have more authority,most states its actually the opposite. All it means is they can do their jobs everywhere in the state.

I’m sorry to tell you folks there are two elected positions in the county. It goes county commissioner and then sheriff. Sheriff has more right and jurisdiction in that county than the state highway patrol name highway patrol patrol not county civil problems.
