I’m sorry, but when my future DIL is in the delivery room, I’m going to be at her home, prepping freezer meals, doing whatever chores need done, and getting the place ready for her and the baby, then I’ll be backing off until she decides she’s ready for visitors. I remember how I was treated, and wouldn’t wish that on anyone else.

My MIL said our wedding wasn’t important because it was her 3rd kid’s wedding and she already experienced 2 kids’ weddings. Doubled down and added that she had 2 grandbabies on the way that was more important.

When my husband told her when we were going to get married she said she doesn’t know if she’ll be there if there is a dog show!!! Or the time I was in labor she told the nurse she was my mom to come in the room - my mom had just passed away few months before! We don’t speak at all 27 years!!

My mil told me that I owed her a "normal" grandchild after my son was diagnosed with Autism. He was born when I was 38, we got the diagnosis when he was seven. I was already post menopause!

When I graduated with my first degree as a Presidential Scholar my father-in-law said that he never finished high school because there was nothing left for them to teach him and college would have just been a waste of money because he was too smart. Yeah, all these years later and guess who wants to come live with us now?

when i had my oldest baby, my MIL kept saying "my baby" (meaning HER baby!!). I finally had enough and told her to stop. Of course, she got upset about it. I simply reminded her (I told her): This is MY baby. I carried him for almost 10 months (I was a MONTH past my due date!), i was the one that had complications during the birth and almost lost him AFTER giving birth. I am also the one breastfeeding. and the one changing all the diapers. and the one there when he cries for some other reason. and I will be the one there when he has nightmares, or gets his heart broke. and when he starts to drive. so no, this is not YOUR baby. this is MY baby

I was married to my ex husband for two years when I got pregnant with our first child. His grandmother asked me if I was sure it was my husband’s baby!! We didn’t tell her about the second pregnancy until after our son was born. Both of the kids look more like their dad than me.

I love my mil and we have a good relationship but when my husband and I got engaged she made a comment to me about how the father of the bride has to pay for the wedding, my dads been dead since I was 7 and they were aware😅
